CUTLERY BOXES

These fine cutlery and utensil boxes were built as a commission work for a seasonal summer restaurant in Turku, Finland. Started from a scratch with acquiring some raw walnut planks which were used to build the sides and the removable middle plates. Bottom was also made from raw plank but fine Finnish birch wood. There were several different phases to get the wood from raw planks to a right kind of length, width and thickness from which it was then possible to move ahead and start making the sides and bottom parts.

KITCHEN CABINETS

This little, simple and beautiful looking kitchen assembly was a commissioned work for a client to their summer cottage. Kitchen was planned and built with reservations for future add-on installations for a sink and gas stove cooking area. All parts are made from plywood and stained blackish with semi-gloss lacquer. Table top was made from a thicker 22 mm plywood. Started from a scratch with acquiring information from compatible kitchen equipment and household appliances and continued with drawings and measurements. It was an overall pleasant and challenging project from which I did have a great opportunity to learn a lot from planning and building larger sized of assembly.

COFFEE TABLES

A commissioned project which was truly challenging but rewarded in the end by the things I learned during the process. It looks easy and simple but also here, there's lots of different phases to complete before you can get to say it is ready. Started with discussing with customer about the idea and what their desires and expectations were on the outcome. These kind of paper drawing drafts are very helpful to get to start with when we start from the scratch. Construct was made with the help of CNC machinery as the diameter needed to be exact. As we know wood is a living material it did and will always bring challenge to every project and must be take in to account from the beginning of a project. There was plenty of ideas popping out during the process for the outcome but the truth is you have to know where to draw the line. Keeping it simple, and still finding the right solution for the situation.

CRAFTING

Crafting and creating things in all of its forms has been close to my heart since the youth. Crafting from wood is always equally fascinating and it has been like this for many years. Somewhere on the path of life one might forget what truly is his passion and where he finds the happiness and joy of doing.

For me, it's the creative work, crafting, visualizing and doing by hands. Putting your mind into work, using your imagination and getting that certain flow going is somewhat crucial when you get to start from the scratch. Also being open and positive to all things around you makes it easier to get ideas popping out and then daring to iterate them with your work.

Here are some of my works and crafts with wood and painting. By going out from your comfort zones might scare you at first, but with courage and daring to try you'll learn new things - not only about the work but also about yourself. That is what we should never stop doing - learning.
